Founded by Bucky Montero, a community organizer and curator with over 3 decades of pushing boundaries in Barrio Logan, Subcultura Curation is a project born from the streets, the underground, and the need to break free from mainstream art culture. Having led art initiatives like community-run galleries and radio stations, Bucky has built a reputation for creating art spaces that reflect the raw, unfiltered side of San Diego’s artistic community.
In 2025, Subcultura Curation will plant its roots at Studio Culture & Cult Studios, a new gallery residence in Barrio Logan. This space will serve as a breeding ground for the bold, the punk, the grunge, and the subversive. Subcultura Curation is where art is unpolished, real, and driven by the people. This is where the underground meets the community and where the art that dares to question everything comes to life.
